The St. Francis Pledge

I/We Pledge to:

  • PRAY and reflect on the duty to care for God’s Creation and protect the poor and vulnerable.
  • LEARN about and educate others on the causes and moral dimensions of climate change.
  • ASSESS how we-as individuals and in our families, parishes and other affiliations-contribute to climate change by our own energy use, consumption, waste, etc.
  • ACT to change our choices and behaviors to reduce the ways we contribute to climate change.
  • ADVOCATE for Catholic principles and priorities in climate change discussions and decisions, especially as they impact those who are poor and vulnerable.

Sunday

Well, this is gonna be a short post... as good as yesterday's run was, today was the exact opposite.

My planned 20 mile route was hijacked by schedule malfunction. Rob's dad decided to drop him off at church, even though I wasn't there... I had gone to mass last night, so I would be able to do my run later in the day. My thought was that I would have 8 more hours to recover.

I guess it was a good thing I was home to get the call... "um, who's gonna pick up the baby?"

By the time the dust had settled, the day was shot and my enthusiasm (and signature good humor) was gone. I re-grouped and halved my distance, thinking anything was better than nothing.

The last 2 miles of my 10 mile run got walked. My heart wasn't in it. My body was weary.

Some runs are like that.

The good news is: I'm 100% on skipping my 20 mile runs in my marathon training plan, so I've got that streak to be proud of!

What I Actually Did :(

Saturday's Wrap Up is Today's Procrastination :)

So a co-worker told me about this worthy charity 5k, and me not being much of a racer wasn't really motivated to do it -- except for the worthy charity part. So despite yucky weather predictions, I went ahead, drug myself out of bed and drove to this race. I kept asking myself why I was doing it, but something compelled me to do it, and I am so glad I did!

I met a wonderful racer, Sally. We chatted about goals and horses and running; we even exchanged digits! Sally ended up winning her age bracket, and I ended up getting 2nd in mine! I was even slowing myself down because I was fearful of my 20 mile run that I had to do the next day.

Thank you Marathon Deity! Big boost to the running ego (I know, it was a small race and my pace wasn't great), and I met a new friend!

Thanks Han

So in my usual style, I was procrastinating and not getting out for my run. I ate, got my tech clothes on, the jumped on the computer. A perfect recipe for not starting / completing my run... Except, I made the mistake of updating my Facebook status to say as much. (tactical error, in hindsight)

Han swoops in to my rescue and reminds my how beautiful the weather is and that I can and should go do my run.

So I did. And I am happy. And grateful that I have such a great friend.

(darn you marathon deity!)

Thank You, Relentless Marathon Deity

I got my training run done today. Big deal, you say? Well it is!
The weather was perfect, oh I love the cool autumn air, baby was cared for, so off I went. Not as far, mind you, as the training plan defined. Nonetheless, I did it and enjoyed myself.
Thank you, relentless marathon deity.

Happy

Well, I got my 16 miles in the bag and felt pretty good for the whole run. Legs got a little tight around 11 miles but never got uncomfortable. Hand swelling at mile 15 wasn't fun. Home now and STARVING!

I don't know why I dread starting my runs... this season they have been very pleasant and peaceful.
